Metallic Admin

Overview

We use Metallic backup (by Commvault) when we need to restore files from a previous date (m365 files, on-prem files). Metallic runs periodic backups.

Access

Access is in 1Password. Each user gets their own account. Ping Super Admin for account creation.

Common Tasks

Restore a file from the file server

• Navigate to metallic.io.
• Sign in.
• Go to Protect > Files > FC1, then select the three dots menu and choose Restore.
• Browse to the file or folder you need, then choose Restore at specific date.

Restore SharePoint data

• Navigate to Microsoft 365 in Metallic.
• Go to Protect > Files (on-prem files are also listed here).
• Select HVCapital_metallic_SPOapp (name may vary by suffix). Make sure you select the SharePoint app.
• In SharePoint file explorer/raw-file view, documents are under Dokumente (Freigegebene Dokumente).
• Above the search bar, enable Show deleted items. This helps you browse deleted files and restore the latest deleted version.
• Choose Restore and select the needed recovery point.

Troubleshooting

• If no recovery points appear, verify you selected the correct workload (Files vs Microsoft 365) and object.
• If a deleted SharePoint file is missing, enable Show deleted items and retry.
• If restore fails, confirm destination permissions and then retry with a smaller restore scope.
