Apple Device Offboarding (iPhone and MacBook)

Overview

This runbook covers offboarding Apple devices (iPhone and MacBook) from company management.

Order matters:

1. Unassign device management (MDM assignment).
2. Release the device from the organization in Apple Business Manager.

Access

1. Open Apple Business Manager in your browser.
2. URL placeholder: add the production Apple Business Manager URL.
3. Sign in with an account that can manage and release devices.
4. Role placeholder: document exact required ABM role for follow-up.
5. If access is missing, contact support@hvcapital.com.

Common Tasks

Offboard an iPhone or MacBook

1. Locate the device in your device management platform and ABM by serial number.
2. In device management, unassign/remove the MDM assignment for the device.
3. Confirm the device is no longer assigned to device management.
4. In Apple Business Manager, open the device record.
5. Release the device from the organization.
6. Record the device serial and offboarding date in the ticket.

Troubleshooting

• If release is blocked in ABM, verify MDM assignment was removed first.
• If the device cannot be found, re-check serial number and search filters.
• If release action is unavailable, verify ABM permissions for your account.
• If unsure whether a release is final, pause and confirm with IT before continuing.
